The Assembly AI module

Turn the recording of every call into text with your own Assembly AI key — what it needs, how to switch it on and off, and what happens when it is off.

The Assembly AI module sends the recording of every call to your Assembly AI account and brings back its text, with the two speakers apart. It is the first step of the call analysis: the transcript it returns is what ChatGPT and Azure Language work on afterwards.

What it needs

  • Recorded calls. Assembly AI works on recordings, and those arrive through the Callpicker module. Without Callpicker there is nothing to transcribe.
  • The ChatGPT module, connected. ChatGPT is the step that takes the transcript and passes it on. Without it, the call is sent to Assembly AI but nothing you can see comes back.
  • An Assembly AI account and its API key. The key is billed to your Assembly AI account, not to Sync Pro.

Turning it on and off

The Assembly AI module is free, and your team switches it on itself. Someone whose role has Manage Plans opens Add-ons from the menu, finds Assembly AI and presses Activate; Deactivate, in the same place, switches it off. Whoever administers your Sync Pro can also give it to your team, for good or as a trial, and a plan can include it.

Connecting it

With the module on, Settings → Integrations gains an Assembly AI Configuration section with one field, Assembly AI Api Key: the API key from your Assembly AI account. Press Save at the end of the page. A saved key is never shown again: the field reads Current value: followed by its last four characters, and Change opens it to type a new one.

Every member can open Settings, but only someone whose role has the Edit Settings permission sees the content of Integrations.

How a call goes from recording to transcript, sentiment and summary, and how to read the result, is in Call transcription and sentiment.

When it is off

Turning the module off removes its section from Settings → Integrations, and new calls are no longer sent to Assembly AI: they are recorded and nothing else happens to them. Nothing is deleted. The transcripts already made, and the key you saved, stay where they are, and turning the module on again picks up with the next call.
